As you travel through life you cross paths with people that you remember, some pleasantly, some not so pleasantly. In my resent past I had the pleasure of meeting James C. Gaither and his wife and to add to that pleasure was the opportunity to work with Mr. Gaither as a paralegal. During my years with Jay I was fortunate enough to meet and develop a friendship with Gran Margaret, a wonderful woman who I have the feeling “walked soft but carried a big stick” in her lifetime. Gran Margaret came in daily to answer the phones and work on files for Mr. Gaither and during the days we had time to converse. To anyone who took the time to watch her when Jay walked in the room could see the love and pride she had felt.
When I first began an association with Mr. Gaither, he was a young attorney whom I grew to admire greatly through the years. I don’t think that anyone who is around him very long can not help but see the strong character he possesses. A devoted man who loves his wife, his children and all his family. A man who I witnessed refusing to compromise his ethics and morals for the almighty dollar.
Things in my personal life changed greatly and my husband and I moved to the coastal area of NC. About the same time Mr. Gaither ran for DA. I kept up with his election campaign and election night scoured the internet to keep up with the count as it came in. When the final vote was counted District 25 had elected Jay Gaither, Attorney at Law as their new District Attorney. Tears came to my eyes with pride and happiness for Mr. Gaither, his family and the citizens of the 25th District.
Recently I had the opportunity to move back to the area and look forward to renewing and catching up with old friends and establishing new relationships, one of which I cannot wait to see Jay and his family.
Congratulations Catawba County and the rest of the 25th District. You have an honest uncompromsing man with integrity looking out for you and God willing if Jay runs again, this time I plan to be there to shake he and Beth’s hand when he wins!
